Sunda River North Chicago Reviews: From Our Guests

Sunda River North Chicago Reviews

Sunda was great! Nolan was a great server, provided excellent recommendations and was funny. The food was incredible and the atmosphere. We came in hot on the starters and sushi that we didn’t even get to the Mains part of the menu. We’ll have to come back!

When my mom visits from Germany, this is her favorite place to go! We’ve been coming for many years, and the team makes my mom feel like a VIP every time! Thank you for the great service!

My experience was great, and the staff was amazing. For appetizers, I recommend the crispy wagyu, oxtail potstickers, and beef lollipops. Toro nigiri was great too. For our main dishes, we had a tomahawk, which was massive and cooked to perfection, and had some peppers on the side, also amazing. We had a yuzu ribeye, also cooked to perfection; the truffle butter was a really nice touch in the dish. Crab noodles on the side went well with both steaks, very nice, light garlic and butter flavor, which let the crab shine in the dish. Last but not least, the Coconut cheesecake was one of the top 5 desserts I've had. I would literally go there to eat that. Overall, I highly recommend this place.

We had a great date night meal here, it was pretty busy but the service was still great - Leila was on top of everything. Also a good selection of vegetarian dishes!

Came for a birthday dinner and had a stellar experience. We ordered the Kamayan Feast between three of us and it was so good that we nearly finished it despite it being for 4+ people. I should add - it’s more than enough for 4 people but we just couldn’t control ourselves it was so good. Big thanks to Lee who was our server/bartender and Chef Quentin who presented the feast and our deserts. Both were awesome and made my birthday dinner such a special and memorable experience. Last note - the desserts were also sensational.

Wow. Sunda New Asian absolutely lived up to the hype and then some. After a long day at a conference—and a few memorable cab rides to get there—our group was ready to unwind, and Sunda was the perfect choice. The share-style dining makes it an ideal spot for groups because everyone gets to experience a variety of dishes. We kicked things off with the espresso martini flight, which was exactly what we needed after a busy day. We also added a rice wine that paired beautifully with the meal and complemented the flavors throughout the evening. As for the food, every dish was a standout. The Brussels sprouts were phenomenal—crispy, flavorful, and completely addictive. The beef lollipops were perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. The sea bass was delicate, buttery, and expertly prepared, while the short rib was incredibly tender and rich, practically melting with every bite. What impressed me most was how every dish brought something unique to the table while still creating a cohesive dining experience. The atmosphere was energetic yet welcoming, the service was attentive, and the entire meal felt like a culinary journey across Asia. If you're in Chicago and looking for an exceptional dining experience, especially with friends or colleagues, Sunda New Asian is a must-visit. Amazing food, creative drinks, and a dining experience that was easily one of the highlights of the trip.

One of my favorite restaurants. Definitely on my list. Must visit. Wife had the pleasure of meeting the chef at the airport and decided to visit soon after. So happy we did.

We came here for a very special graduation dinner. The Kamayan Feast was a showstopper! That, along with a couple sushi and apps and dessert was plenty of food for our party of 7. Our server Rachael was very sweet and answered all of our questions. Also, the Emerald mocktail is one of the most interesting beverages I've ever tried -- it's sour then sweet and then a little savory like sticky rice, surprisingly tasty!
