11 restaurants set to open in metro Detroit in 2026

The restaurant scene in Detroit and the metro area evolves every year and 2026 will be no different. We'll see some notable names entering the market for the first time and other independent, already-established restaurateurs extending their reach. Following is a look at some of the more anticipated restaurant openings in 2026:

Sunda New Asian

Sushi restaurant Sunda New Asian is scheduled to open sometime early in 2026 at 33 W. Columbia St. in The District Detroit.

The restaurant comes from Emmy Award-winning TV personality, actor and restaurant owner Billy Dec, a Chicago native. The Detroit restaurant was originally slated to open in spring 2025, but the opening was later pushed to fall 2025 and now into the next year.

Founded in 2009 in Chicago, Sunda is an award-winning restaurant showcasing modern new Asian cuisine from Japan, China and other Southeast Asian countries. The food is elevated with upgraded ingredients, cooking techniques and presentation. The Sunda menu features a variety of sushi rolls, nigiri and sashimi, noodle and rice dishes, and main courses including a butcher’s cut wagyu and adobo pork belly.
