Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month kicked off with the streaming launch of the award-winning documentary, “Food Roots,” spotlighting the best of Filipino food.
The hour-long film follows Filipino American TV personality Billy Dec on his trip around the Philippines. Dec seeks to reconnect with relatives and learn ancestral recipes on this journey of self-discovery.
Dec is the founder of Sunda New Asian, a Southeast Asian restaurant with branches in Chicago, Nashville, Tampa and Detroit.
He has also appeared in numerous films and TV series, including hit sitcom “Friends.”
“Food Roots” originally premiered in 2023 and won awards at multiple film festivals.
The film is available to stream on PBS TV and on Dec’s YouTube channel. The Fil-Am restaurateur also gave a special shoutout to Filipino music star Apl.de.Ap, who helped produced the film.
“Grateful to you, and the incredible team who helped bring this to life: 3-time Oscar-winning EP Doug Blush, Emmy-winning Director Michele Josue, Grammy-winning apl.de.ap, and COACT Agency,” Dec wrote.
